Common Questions and clear answers.

While both the HCP and CHSP are Australian government-funded programs that give you support to stay living at home, there are significant differences between them.

With CHSP, you’ll have access to specific aged care services, but there isn’t much flexibility. This program aims to support you with basic activities. You will have to pay a subsidised rate from your own pocket for the home care support services you receive.

If you have an HCP, you will get funding that you can use for whatever aged care services you require so long as they are within government guidelines and in line with your Care Plan. Once you have a Package, it is yours until you no longer require it. You get to choose the home care services you would like to use – based on your unique situation.

Home Care Packages (HCPs) are designed to meet different levels of care, ensuring you get the support you need to live independently at home. Here’s how each level works:

  • Level 1 Home Care Packages

For those needing minimal assistance, this level focuses on light help with daily tasks such as cleaning, transport, and home modifications.

  • Level 2 Home Care Packages

Designed for individuals requiring more regular help, this package includes personal care, social outings, and ongoing customised care to suit your needs.

  • Level 3 Home Care Packages

For those with moderate needs, this level offers support like allied health services, assistance with chronic conditions, and nursing services at home.

  • Level 4 Home Care Packages

Tailored for individuals with complex requirements, this level includes daily nursing, dementia care, and full-time support.

Each package is designed to provide the right amount of care while maintaining your independence. If you’re unsure which level suits you best, our Perth-based team can guide you through the process and ensure you make the most of your Home Care Package.

The ACAT is a group of health professionals, such as doctors, nurses, and care workers, who assess the needs of older Australians. They determine eligibility for government-funded aged care programs during the application process. ACAT assessments are comprehensive and help create personalised Care Plans to support individuals in maintaining their independence and quality of life.

If you are an older person with a disability, you may be able to use your HCP to pay for disability support services, provided these services are part of your approved Care Plan and help you meet your care goals. It is important to discuss your specific needs with your Care Manager to ensure the disability care you want is covered under your HCP.
